Applications of Dampers in Automotive Interiors

A damper is a component used to control product movement. It moderates motion through physical friction between parts and fluid resistance, with performance tuned to the application.

Common forms include rotary dampers, axial dampers and buffers. Their shape varies according to the structure and installation position.

In automotive interiors, dampers are often hidden in overhead glasses holders, reading-light compartments, centre consoles and armrests, sunroof handles, ashtrays, charging ports and gloveboxes. Missing or failed dampers can cause overly rapid movement, impact noise and a noticeably poorer user experience.
